My brother goes to school at CSU Monterey Bay, which is a university that is slowly taking over the area occupied by the former military base called Fort Ord. The former Fort Ord is easily one of the eeriest, most unsettling places I have ever visited. Now, when the American military wants to abandon base, it simply abandons base. By leaving behind a zone of urban decay, festering with rats, toxic waste, and (if you believe urban legend,) the occasional land mine, the army created the perfect set for post-apocalyptic student films (with or without zombies.) While acting in one of the many student horror films set in the Ord, my brother came across some barracks whose interior an art student had used as canvas. I took some photos of the paintings earlier today, they don’t really capture the feelings of depression and surrealism which seem to lay so heavily over the Ord and in the photos I think the paintings look a bit lifeless, whereas in reality they felt so emotionally weighty because of the drabness of their surroundings. No matter, I enjoy graffiti so, I’m posting a few anyways:
- Girl Graffiti
- Pollack
- I love Banksy
